Patrick Swayze Fights the Battle of His Life
His doctor has confirmed that the star was being treated for pancreatic cancer, but denied claims that the Hollywood actor had just weeks to live.
It is to the star's credit that he has vowed to keep working during his biggest battle.
But, like for all of us, someday it will all come to an end. His wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.
What will matter is not his success, but his significance.
What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate his example.
What will matter is how long he will be remembered, by whom and for what.
What will matter is not how many people he knew, but how many will feel a lasting loss when he is gone.
It is to his credit that, during this period of anguish and pain, he has vowed to keep living a life that matters.
